Synopsis

Winner of the Special Jury Prize for Documentary at Sundance Film Festival, The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo is an extraordinary film that demands to be seen.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, rape is a national atrocity on a scale unimaginable in the West, a part of the brutal war the country was plunged into in 1998. Tens of thousands of girls have been violated and cast aside, their stories a blind spot in global humanitarian action. Emmy award-winning filmmaker Lisa F Jackson travels to the Congo to shatter the silence surrounding this epidemic that is ravaging the nation.

Herself a survivor of gang rape in the US, Jackson goes after the truth with a marked tenacity. Obtaining unbelievably candid interviews from victims and perpetrators alike, she presents a moving tapestry of tragedy interspersed with moments of inspiring resilience, courage and mercy.

"This documentary of the highest calling exposes an unknown tragedy." —The Hollywood Reporter
